This Privacy Policy outlines how I collect, use, retain and safeguard any of your personal data and information, when you use this website, email, phone or remotely. It explains your individual rights, that in summary include your right to know what data is held about you, how this data is processed and how you can place restrictions on the use of your data.
I am committed to ensuring that your privacy is protected. Should I ask you to provide certain information, via the website or by email, by which you can be identified, you can be assured that it will only be used in accordance with this privacy statement.
Lightness of Being may change this policy, from time to time, by updating this page. Please check this page, now and then, to ensure that you are happy with any changes.
This policy is effective from the 25th May 2018. I do not share, or sell, or disclose to a third party any personal, identifiable information collected.
WHAT IS PERSONAL DATA?
Personal data is information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person. Examples include an individual’s name, age, and address, date of birth, gender and contact details.
Personal data may contain information which is known as special categories of personal data. This may be information relating to and not limited to, an individual’s health, racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, trade union membership, genetic and biometric data, or data relating to sexual orientation.

For the purposes of safeguarding and processing criminal conviction and offence data responsibly, this data is treated in the same manner as special categories of personal data, where we are legally required to comply with specific data processing requirements.
Here is a list of the information that I collect, via a ‘Confidential Client Consultation Form’:
- Name and basic contact details, including email address
- Age
- Nationality
- Occupation
- Medical History
- Lifestyle
- Life Stresses
- Previous psychotherapy/counselling/therapy
This information is used:
- To provide you with the appropriate therapy for you
- To answer your enquiries/questions
- To maintain my records
WHAT DO I DO WITH THE INFORMATION GATHERED?
I require this information to understand your needs and provide you with the best service from me and for the following reasons:
- Internal record keeping
- I may periodically send promotional emails and newsletters, notifying you about special offers and other information, which I think you may find interesting, using the email address which you have provided. You can unsubscribe at any time.
- Disclosure to your GP – if I deem you are a threat to yourself or others
- Disclosure to the Government – I may be required to give information to legal bodies, if they so request, or if they have proper authorisation, such as a Search Warrant or Court Order
DATA RETENTION
- I will retain your data for a maximum period of 10 years, although this could be less
- Where you or law enforcement agencies inform us about any active investigation or potential criminal prosecution, we will comply with legal requirements
The retention of data is necessary where required for record keeping purposes.
I hold onto your personal information for the purpose(s) for which it was collected, unless otherwise required by the law. If you request that I stop sending you updates and other communications or wish for me to delete your information, I will honour your request.
YOUR RIGHTS
Individuals are provided with legal rights governing the use of their personal data. These grant individuals the right to understand what personal data relating to them is held, for what purpose, how it is collected and used, with whom it is shared, where it is located, to object to its processing, to have the data corrected if inaccurate, to take copies of the data and to place restrictions on its processing. Individuals can also request the deletion of their personal data.

I am committed to ensuring that your information is secure. I have put in place suitable physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information collected, whether online or on paper.
